Dublin Film Critics Circle Awards 2007

The Dublin Film Critics Circle, of which I am a member, recently announced the results of their annual vote. Each member votes for a top five, but I've only included the outright winners in each category here.

Best International Film: The Lives of Others (Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck)

Best Irish Film: Garage (Lenny Abrahamson)

Best Director: David Fincher, Zodiac

Best Actor: Ulrich Mühe, The Lives Of Others

Best Actress: Julie Christie, Away From Her

Breakthrough Award: Saoirse Ronan, Atonement

The image above is Al Hirschfeld's caricature of the celebrated wits of the Algonquin Round Table, which bears no similarity whatsoever to the proceedings of the DFCC. Although it'd be great if it did.

That DFCC sounds like a very shadowy organisation. The first time I heard about it was about two weeks ago. And it doesn't have a website. Are there secret handshakes and phallic shaped hors d'oeuvres served at meetings?

There should by rights be a website for the DFCC, Sinéad, but who's got the time for all that messing about?

Nobody could agree on the secret handshake. Indeed, most aren't all that fond of shaking hands in the first instance.

Not for the first time, I stand corrected Sinéad. The DFCC site, including the list of eligible voters (which is what you're really after, admit it...) is here...

Was just curious that any organistion (in this day and age and all that malarkey) wouldn't be represented on the web.
Only one woman member? What about Tara Loughrey Grant?
